Evan Smouse joined the College of Business faculty in the fall of 2012. He teaches undergraduate and MBA classes with a focus on innovation,听entrepreneurship, information systems and business analytics. Evan鈥檚 career spans government, academia, and high technology commercial businesses.听

During a 20 year career at Hewlett-Packard, he worked in advanced research, product development, and technology management. His most recent 12 years were in the HP Office of Strategy & Technology. Evan was a CTO for new web business incubations and managed a $50M+ annual R&D portfolio in Brazil with both internal HP programs and external programs at Brazil universities and research centers. He has sponsored research at Purdue, Ohio State, UC San Diego and other universities. Prior to HP, Evan held executive positions in four high technology start-ups and studied in the MBA program at Santa Clara University.

  • Managed IPG鈥檚 role in HP鈥檚 intellectual property decisions and worked with R&D Directors and Distinguished Technologists to create a unified strategy for patent creation and IP portfolio management
  • As CTO, drove strategic roadmap and industry initiatives to accelerate launch of digital content services business 鈥 sponsored HP leadership in DVD-CCA, Coral Consortium, Open Media Market initiative
  • Founding Board member and Vice President, Digital Living Network Alliance
  • Founding Board member, CE Linux Forum
  • Founding Board member, W3C Mobile Web initiative
  • Launched the first HP Technology Conference as Program Committee Co-Chair
  • Created the technology strategy to support HP鈥檚 acquisition of a third major marking engine technology (Indigo)
  • Launched a transformation of the Internet printing and imaging model and developed the strategic fit of this transformation with the business imperatives central to HP鈥檚 broader strategies 鈥 included significant work with outside partners such as Microsoft, Sony, Canon and Kodak
